    A chemistry degree from New College Oxford naturally heralded a move into the world of finance. Matt has enjoyed a wide-ranging career that started with Scottish Amicable and has included Nat West Securities, Hoare Govett, Schroder Securities, Morgan Stanley, Credit Lyonnais and Société Générale Securities. He is seen as an international finance and fund-raising expert and has appeared on many TV programmes and spoken at industry conferences.  

    Matt has business interests in property, software, digital marketing, Life Sciences and public affairs. He has specialist experience in developing Business Plans for new ventures, in particular for freight forwarding projects – UK and International.

    Bill has enjoyed a distinguished career and brings his extensive board level experience to companies and organisations in energy, infrastructure and the public sector.

    Graduating in Mathematics from Durham University, Bill then joined Ernst & Young before later joining British Railways and continuing his career, in turn, with major enterprises in the UK and across Europe.   

    A flair for finance, business growth and negotiations that deliver win-win outcomes, has led to Bill being placed in leading positions:

    Bill has a Postgraduate Business Diploma from Manchester Business School, is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and a member of the Advanced Management Programme & Follow-up INSEAD.

    Career highlights include:

    • Nuclear Decommissioning Authority – restructured investment decision-making process and gained funding increase clean-up programme
    • European Chemical Agency – new ERP systems, negotiated new tariffs / funding for EU biocides prog.
    • Direct Rail Services – grew from £24m to £50m
    • Sundog Energy Ltd – grew from £2m to £12m award-winning business; won contracts for London 2012 Olympics and Kings Cross Station
    • CDC Globeleq – Refinanced USD 1 Billion power projects in Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and South America
    • TXU – grew continental European business from zero to €1.5b turnover, involving acquisitions and disposals in Mordic, Western and Central Europe.
  • Sherman Havens

    In his long and varied career, a fascination with systems engineering has taken Sherman to many different environments around the world – from the US Navy to public and private sector projects in North America, Europe, Middle East and Africa.

    An engineering and design management expert, Sherman has extensive experience in large Government sponsored projects including rail, university, data centres and naval communications. These have involved both regional and global rollouts. A specialist in network centric design/ implementation with a focus on both fixed and wireless infrastructure, Sherman has worked on major projects including Crossrail, London Underground, Dockland Light Railway, Network Rail, Data Centres.

    Sherman’s approach is to pay close attention to user needs and requirements which in turn helps to ensure customer satisfaction and long-term survivability of the systems.

    Specific experience includes:

    • US Submarine Force – 25 years – Senior Systems Engineer, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command
    • WSP UK – Technical Director for Systems Engineering, Communications & Controls (SECC); member of the WSP Global Technical Excellence Team for Transport & Infrastructure
    • Crossrail – Systems Engineering Lead Engineer for 5 Crossrail Projects including Stations and Portals
    • KAUST, Thuwal, Saudi Arabia – Technical Lead Integrator, world’s largest USGBC certified LEED Platinum Project
  • Patrick Target

    Patrick began his career in petroleum engineering with degrees in Chemical Engineering, Sheffield University and MBA Business, Henley College.

    In 1999, Patrick joined Unocal Oil and worked in Vietnam, USA and the Netherlands. Staying within the Chevron ‘umbrella, he then became LNG Market Development Manager, Chevron Indonesia in 2005. This led to roles as Gas Strategy Manager, Chevon Global Gas (2006-2013) and Commercial Manager Chevron Turkey, 2013-2016.

    Patrick has managed most phases of oil and gas projects, from petroleum exploration and development, process, pipeline and power development and operations. He is married with 4 adult children and yet still finds time to be an expert in

  • John Corless

    John is a Senior Design Manager with over 33 years’ experience in civil engineering and general construction. From a strong academic base – BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering; MSc Information Technology; Member of Chartered Institute of Building, MCIOB – John has built a high reputation as a design and build expert.

    Drawing on his experience of managing multi-disciplinary design and construction teams, clients and third parties, John has been responsible for delivering technically complex projects in the Rail, Commercial, Industrial, and Residential construction sectors. These include the Thames Water Flood Alleviation Scheme at Abbey Mills, obtaining Third Party approvals and implementing monitoring strategies for the crossing of NR(CTRL) HS1 tunnels, Tube Lines Stratford Market Depot and Jubilee Line, DLR (Abbey Road Station), Network Rail (Gospel Oak to Barking line), ODA (NG and EDF) cable tunnels. Other Rail Projects including Leamington to Banbury Re-signalling, Footbridge, Platform and First Class Waiting Room at Wolverhampton Station, Maintenance Facility for Chiltern Railways at Stourbridge and Multi-modal Transport Interchange at Birmingham International Station.

    John is passionate about the importance of communication within teams and across major projects that involve many organisations. This has been most recently evident in his management of the depot design acceptance role on behalf of Bombardier Transportation as part of the project team delivering the Crossrail Rolling Stock and Depot at Old Oak Common and involving liaising with BT Services, the depot contractor (VINCI) and Rail for London.

    Specific areas of expertise include:

    • Major experience in managing multi-disciplinary design teams, construction team, client and external parties
    • Communicates well at all levels / chair large multi-disciplinary meetings
    • Analytical ability to identify buildability issues and advise, interrogate drawings and specifications easily and efficiently
    • Adept at pulling together specialist contractors in coordination of design and installation, good understanding of design team processes
